Closure of mills send shockwaves in rice belt
---enough supplies for local and foreign markets

Rice farmers throughout the country are encountering tremendous difficulties to sell their paddy that is being reaped during the current crop due to the closure of several rice mills around the country.

While in New York , the President interacted with sections of the Guyanese community and conducted a television interview during which he addressed a number of matters pertaining to the development in the country.

The President led a ten member delegation, including members of the private sector, on an official State visit to China. During the delegation’s tour, the Guyanese Head of State was accorded an extensive briefing on the advances in mushroom planting, at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University which specializes in scientific projects. Mr. Jagdeo also had a first hand view of the stages of cultivation.

Meanwhile , the provincial leadership of both Guangzhou and Fuzhopu have agreed to send teams to Guyana to explore possibilities for further trade and investment.

President Jagdeo also witnesses the signing of a friendship agreement between Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green, and Fuzhou’s mayor HanZheng to officially mark the twinning of the two cities.

The China visit was made with the aim of strengthening relations between Guyana and China. The President and his delegation returned to Guyana today.
