Court installs interim management at Shaheed orphanages

CHIEF Justice Carl Singh has named an interim management committee to administer the Shaheed Boys and Girls orphanages in Alexander Street, Kitty, Georgetown and Oleander Gardens, East Coast Demerara, respectively.

The committee will comprise Mujtaba Nasir, Moenudin Mohamed McDoom (Jnr), Shalimar Ali-Hack, Shiraz Osman Ali, Raheema Rahaman and Yacoob Hussain and they will be responsible for the administration pending determination of the action before the Court.

The Chief Justice acted on a motion by Senior Counsel Rex McKay and Moenudin McDoom and McDoom (Jnr), who is also an attorney-at-law.

They cited Guyana United Sad’r Islamic Anjuman, the orphanages, Abdool Shamsudeen Rahaman, Hafiz Rahaman, Mohamed Yacoob Hussain, Nazir Hamid and Raheema Rahaman also known as Dolly Yasin and alleged mal-administration, malpractices and abuse of the orphans.

Further hearing in the matter is adjourned to May 12.
