Stage set for big one-day horse race meet

THE stage is set for the big one-day horse race meeting of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club, scheduled to be run off at the Club’s Track at the Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, this Sunday, with over 40 horses taking part in the seven-race card.

The main feature on the programme is for horses classified D2 & Lower over one mile for the Eldorado Stakes, sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). An exciting finish is anticipated between Showtime, What-A-Pleasure and Satranie for the first prize of $100 000 and the Eldorado Trophy; while the second-place horse will receive $50 000; third-place $25 000; and fourth-place $13 000.

The largest field of the day of ten horses will be for F1 & Lower horses over six furlongs for a first prize of $80 000 and the Haripaul and Laloo Memorial Trophy. This race is sponsored by Corentyne businessmen Laka Rambrich, J.P. Ghamandi (Boyo) and D. Bali (Big D) and rice farmer Harry Aligu. Favourites for his race are Gilford, Temptation, Talk of the Town, and Time for a Change.

The G-Class horses will contest for stakes, sponsored by M. Beepat and Sons and Kanhai’s Guyana Electrical Agency, over one mile for a first prize of $70 000 and the John Tulshi Memorial Trophy. Favourites are Brown Boy, My Arrival and Windy Edge.

The H2 & Lower horses will run over 7 furlongs for a first prize of $65 000 and the Jamiel Bacchus Memorial Trophy. The race is being sponsored by businessman Naipaul Kamadhar and Patsan Trading Enterprise. Favourites are: Science Gold, Jungle Prince and Hustling Time.

The L-Class race which also has a field of ten will be run over 5 furlongs for a first prize of $40 000 and the Chinnie Ramlall Memorial Trophy and will be sponsored by Lens and Goodwood Racing Service. Favourites are: Asian Dancer, Angel Pride and Sea Bell.

The J&K Class horses will run over 5 furlongs for stakes sponsored by Deonarine Balram businessman of Rose Hall Town and the Royal Woodworking General Store and a first prize of $45 000 and Bhownauth Dowlat Trophy. Favourites are: President, Party Set and Gentlemen.

The final event will be for the I-Class horses over 6 furlongs, sponsored by Reeaz Trading Enterprises Ltd and Silvie’s General Store for a first prize $50 000 and the Mr & Mrs Burden Bactawar Memorial Trophy. Favourites are Red Rat, Angalee and Yoglee.
