THE Guyana bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) last Friday made financial donations to several service organisations.

During the presentation of the donations, the bank’s Junior Branch Manager, Sean Noel, alluded to the significant contribution to the social and economic well-being of society being made by voluntary and community organisations.

According to Noel, an increased awareness would highlight the biggest challenges facing service organisations - that of maintaining their services for those who utilise them; coping with changing demands; and finding sustainable sources of funding their activities. Their overarching concern is one of capacity -their ability to continue to fulfill the increasing demands that are placed on them.

“Because little is known about their value to society, it has been difficult for these organisations to realise their full potential, and in particular to make a more substantial contribution to the local economy,” Noel declared.

In view of this, he said GBTI is pleased not only to help to highlight the valuable role of these organisations, but in also providing tangible assistance to enable them to execute their programmes and realise their objectives.

The organisations present at the ceremony represented only a few of the total number whose programmes are not only designed to assist the vulnerable, but also provide a focal point for bringing to the fore the issues and concerns that confront a developing society such as ours, Noel said. He adding that it is only with increased efforts and positive initiatives that the debilitating effects of a deterioration in economic conditions could be arrested.

“We therefore see it as part of our social and corporate responsibility to support these organisations, and it is our wish that every such organisation that strives for similar aims is fully supported by the business community and individuals,” Noel assured.
