FINAL year students of the Diploma in Tourism course of the University of Guyana are scheduled to conduct a Tourism Outreach exercise at Bartica beginning tomorrow and concluding on Sunday. According to a release from Mr Donald Sinclair, Tourism Studies Coordinator and Chairman of the University’s 40th Anniversary Committee, the Outreach exercise is one of the activities planned for the current celebration.

“The Outreach involves three main activities. First, the Tourism group will be conducting a Tourism Awareness session involving 70 senior students of the Bartica Secondary School. Second, there will be a training session on Basic Service Methods that will target a group of restaurant workers at the Castillo International Hotel. Third, Tourism Studies Coordinator Donald Sinclair will be presenting to the Regional Chairman, Mr. Gordon Bradford a document entitled, Road Map for the Development of a Tourism Sector in Bartica,” release stated.

“The Tourism Road Map document is the fruit of guided research conducted over a six-month period by last year’s Diploma in Tourism graduates, and can be seen as a user-friendly set of signposts available for almost immediate implementation by the Regional administration. The Tourism Awareness session is aimed at developing in the senior students an understanding of what tourism means, how it can benefit Bartica, and the role that Barticians can play in helping to develop their tourism sector.

“The three days will also be a learning experience for the Tourism group since they will be holding meetings and interviews with Regional Officials, Chamber of Commerce members, Town Day and Regatta planners,” the release concluded.
