THE strike call by Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) did not disrupt classes in most Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon schools in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) yesterday.

However, Regional Education Officer Claude Amsterdam said some others seemed to have been affected by the industrial action.

He said Department of Education officials were monitoring the situation and giving feedback to the Ministry of Education in Georgetown.

The Headmaster and other staff of Charity Secondary withdrew their services and reports said students who turned up for classes were told to return home.

The Heads of Cotton Field Secondary and Charity Primary schools said classes were in session as usual and teachers were punctual.

The situation was the same at Hampton Court Primary, Anna Regina Multilateral and Aurora Secondary schools and, in Pomeroon, all schools were open, too, with children in attendance.
