THE Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programmme Friday evening held February Fantasy 11. The event, a dinner and cultural show has become an annual fundraiser for the non-profit organisation which aims at ensuring that differently able persons are treated equally in society.

February Fantasy 11 was held at the Ocean View Convention Centre, East Coast Demerara, under the patronage of Canadian High Commissioner Serge Marcoux.

As was the case last year, the most admired participants in the cultural show were persons with disabilities. Miss Guyana World 2002 Odessa Phillips, has committed herself to the work of CBR and briefly modelled at the function.

After dinner, patrons were treated to an entertaining show that featured the young and the old, those who lived normal lives and those whose disabilities prevent them from living normal lives.

Daphne Joseph, with her `opera-like’ voice was warmly received and she obliged to do another song. She is visually impaired.

Dawn Fox’s poem titled `You have to be deaf to understand’ brought to life the peculiarity of being deaf.

Local designer/choereographer Derek Moore worked with five members of the CBR who live with various disabilities. The five- one man and four women - performed their modelling assignment admirably.

Another hit of the night was Prince Miller, a shoemaker at Stewartville, West Coast Demerara. Interestingly, with his walking disability, he performed Michael Bolton’s `Back on my Feet again’. He received several rousing rounds of applause.

Fire dancing and a masquerade band were other attractions of the night.

The National Dance Company brought the curtains down performing to Compton Hodge’s `Umbrella Party’. (Neil Marks)
