NAIROBI, Kenya (Reuters) - Captain Sanath Jayasuriya branded Sri Lanka's World Cup defeat against Kenya yesterday as both his and his team's ``worst day in cricket''.

``We batted badly and our middle order didn't click,'' he told a news conference, after the 1996 champions lost their Group B match by 53 runs.

``Our bowling restricted Kenya to 210 (for nine wickets) which was beatable but, because we played badly, the better team won.

``I am very disappointed. This is my and the team's worst day in cricket.''

Jayasuriya, who has played international cricket for 13 years and featured in 291 one-dayers and 76 Tests, added: ``We must now beat West Indies and South Africa.''

Sri Lanka and Kenya both have 12 points at the top of Group B, with West Indies on 10 and South Africa and New Zealand on eight.

Kenya's last two games are against Bangladesh and West Indies and victory over Bangladesh would give them a real chance of reaching the next round.

Kenya captain Steve Tikolo said: ``I thought we were short of 30 or 40 runs but, because our bowling was perfect, the fielding tight and the crowd pushed us all the way, we carried the day.''

Collins Obuya, man-of-the-match after taking five for 24 off 10 overs - the ninth best analysis in World Cup history - to help bowl out Sri Lanka for 157, said: ``I feel great and I want to be the best bowler in this country.''

His figures were the best in one-day history by a Kenyan.
