GUYANA’S second world champion, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, will make his first defence of the World Boxing Council Cruiserweight crown on February 21. He is listed among three upcoming title fights involving Guyanese.

Another Guyanese, Howard Eastman, will be in the ring before Braithwaite, fighting for the European Middleweight title on January 28.

Ravea Springs will be challenging the champion for his belt at the Miccousukee Casino, Miami, Florida.

Braithwaite is undefeated in 18 appearances in the professional ring, while Springs was defeated twice in 27 bouts.

The Guyanese won the vacant WBC title on October 11 last year when he finished Italian Vincenzo Cantatore in ten rounds in Italy.

Eastman will be coming up against Erland Betare at the Ice Stadium, England.

With 33 wins and one loss, Eastman will face a boxer with 35 wins, seven losses and two draws.

Shortly after, the country’s first World champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis will be getting another title crack, this time for the World Boxing Organisation Welterweight title.

Lewis will meet Antonio Magarito at the Casino, Las Vegas, on February 8.

Another Guyanese, Gairy St Clair will be on the the Kostya Tszyu/James Leija card for the unification of the Junior Welterweight belts - World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association.

St Clair was first carded to meet Mick O’Malley at the Telstra Dome, Melbourne, Australia on January 18, but the latest schedule on Fightnews shows that the fighter is to be announced, vaguely stating it would be against an Indonesian.

The Guyanese, who spars with Tszyu, goes into the ring with 24 wins, three losses and two draws. (Isaiah Chappelle)
