Various religious groups plan to form a human chain from Congress Place to Freedom House to symbolise their desire for national reconciliation.

The three-mile chain consisting of an estimated 5,000 persons will be the highlight of a day of Prayer, Reconciliation and Public Witness organised by the Guyana Council of Churches (GCC) for Monday, December 9.

In a press release, the GCC said one of the chief goals of the symbolic event is to annihilate the ethnic, social, economic and religious barriers embodied in the current crisis facing Guyanese. "[This day will be used]...to entreat God's help for Guyana in this time of crisis in bringing our nation to true reconciliation, peace and justice," the release stated.

Representatives of each of the main religious faiths have been invited to participate.

Interested persons are advised to assemble at their respective places of worship by 8:30 am to link hands across the specified route via Garnett Street - Vlissengen Road and Church and Wellington Streets. Additionally, a declaration of peace for Guyana will be read at noon by all participants, the release said.
