Vice-Chairman of the PNC/R Vincent Alexander was returned unopposed as chairman of the Georgetown District when elections were held on Sunday at the end of the district's two-day conference at St. Stanislaus College auditorium.

The conference also elected Clayton Hinds as vice-chairman, Gregory Fraser, secretary and Volda Lawrence, treasurer, a press release from the Georgetown District said on Monday.

The returning officer was James McCallister.

And four committee members were elected: Denise Miller, Trevor Roberts, Florence Bourne and Rawle Wayne Payne, the release stated.

It noted further that a motion submitted by the Werk-en-Rust Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) group and endorsed by the conference increased the number of committee members from two to four.

The National Congress of Women (NCW) and the GYSM are represented on the committee by Tanzel Baveghems and Chiyedza James respectively.

Meanwhile, three groups were given awards and recognition during Sunday's session.

According to the release, the Festival City group received the Desmond Hoyte Award for being the largest group, while the West Side GYSM group copped the Robert Corbin Award for the group with the most activities, and the Vincent Alexander Award went to the East/West La Penitence group for having the largest purse.
