President Bharrat Jagdeo is delighted over Vivian Harris' victory over Diobelys Hortado on Saturday night which made the junior welterweight the second Guyanese within eight days to win a world title.

Harris forced the referee to stop his fight against Hortado at 43 seconds of the second round with a flurry of punches, to wrest the International Boxing Association and the World Boxing Association's junior welterweight titles from Hortado, a Cuban American.

According to a Guyana News Agency release, President Jagdeo said that Harris has done the country proud by copping the second world title for Guyana in eight days.

"I am very happy, that was a good thing last night (Saturday). I sat there waiting for the fight and then it happened. We won another world title. I am so happy for the country. I think it is so great for morals and for the people. He is an excellent fighter. He surprised us a bit by ending it so early because we know Hurtado is a very good fighter but that just shows his preparation and skills. he is a very good boxer" the release quoted President Jagdeo as saying.

According to the release, the president will meet with Harris to discuss what Government can do for him (Harris) to show the country's appreciation.

"When he comes home we will discuss what we are going to do" Jagdeo noted. Wayne Braithwaithe won the World Boxing Council's cruiserweight title against Italian Vincenzo Cantatori with a 10th round stoppage on October 11.
