Electricity consumers will from October 1 be faced with increased tariffs following a rate increase caused by higher fuel prices.
The increase which according to the Guyana Power and Light Co. (GPL) amounts to $0.77 per kilowatt hour (unit) will be added to the present surcharge of $1.65 bringing that figure to $2.42. The $1.65 surcharge had been implemented in July as a result of dramatic fluctuations in fuel costs.
World market prices for fuel have been unsteady over the last couple of months after experiencing falls at the beginning of the year.
