Guyana's male and female table tennis teams are out of the senior Caribbean TT championships which begins today in Puerto Rico.

The teams were scheduled to depart today for the championships which runs until October 7.

According to secretary of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Sydney Christophe the team was still awaiting a response from the Ministry of Sports to a request for assistance to attend the championships.

Christophe said after sending a junior team to the TT championships in August the GTTA was hard pressed to raise the necessary funds to attend this championships. He explained that it would cost the GTTA around $US 700 per player to attend the championships.

Christophe said efforts will now be turned towards having a few of the players attend the singles and doubles events which begin on Thursday. Former national men's singles champion Godfrey Munroe, Andrew Daly and Francine Abrams are expected to contest the singles.

All of the players with the exception of one male player were issued visas by the US Embassy here in Kingston.
