A strong field of bodybuilders led by 2001 Central American and Caribbean lightweight bronze medalist Anthony Thom are the front runners for the Mr Guyana title come Sunday when the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding Federation stages its Mr and Miss Guyana championships at the National Cultural Centre.

The veteran Thom, of Interline Fitness Gym, will throw down the gauntlet to the likes of Troy Johnson, the reigning Mr Fitness Paradise, Junior Dey, and Linden `Muscles’ Burnett.

The other half of the contest, the Miss Guyana competition is guaranteed to spring some surprises and is also expected to be keenly contested as places on the CAC team for the tournament in Caracas, Venezuela are at stake.

But the highlight of the evening could be the appearance of guest bodybuilder Lyndon Belgrave, the Barbados national champion and current CAC lightheavyweight champion.

Belgrave who combines awesome muscularity with graceful posing is sure to be a crowd pleaser come Sunday night at the competition which commences at 7pm sharp. More than a dozen bodybuilders from gyms in Georgetown, West Demerara and Linden will take the stage following which the team for the CAC games which runs from September 26-28 will be named.

However, those selected will have to undergo mandatory drug testing.
