Squash players Luke Fraser and Nicolette Fernandes failed to advance to the final of the men's and women's individual plate competition at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England yesterday.

According to reports from England, Fraser, lost his semi-final match against Zimbabwe's J. Engelbrecht by a 3-2 margin after winning the first and third games by 9-5 and 9-6 margins respectively. Engelbrecht won games two (5-9), four (7-9) and five (5-9).

Fernandes on the other hand lost in the women's plate round of 16, to Jamaica's Merlene West 9-7, 9-3, 9-3.

Fraser will now play Masambo Selisho of Zambia today, for third place in the plate competition.

Selisho lost his semi-final plate match against Scotland's Neil Frankland 9-2, 9-5, 9-2.

Frankland and Engelbrecht will meet in today's plate final.

Meanwhile, Fraser will team up today with Regan Pollard for the men's doubles preliminary round and with Nicolette Fernandes for the preliminary round of the mix doubles competition which also gets underway today.
