Guyana's junior squash players currently contesting the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships at the Liguanea Club, Kingston, Jamaica, advanced to the final in both the boys and girls team competitions after registering comfortable victories over Jamaica and Trinidad respectively. According to reports from Jamaica, the local boys beat host Jamaica 4-1 in their semi-final encounter, while the girls registered a similar margin of victory over Trinidad in another semi-final affair.

Both the Guyana boys and girls teams were down to play Barbados in both team finals yesterday. Barbados' boys thrashed their counterparts from Venezuela 5-0, while the girls (Barbados) edged Jamaica 3-2 in the other semi-final.

When the two teams met in the finals (boys and girls) in 2000 in Barbados), Barbados triumphed over the then defending champions (Guyana).

Raphael DeGroot was the only local boy to lose a match against Jamaica in the semi-final round. He was beaten 3-1 (10-9, 3-9, 5-9, 0-9) by Bruce Burrows.

In the girls team event, the local lasses ran through Trinidad 4/1, as expected, to set up an all Eastern Caribbean affair this year.

In their semi-final clash, the local boys team won their two under-19 matches 9-0, 9-1, 9-0 and 9-3, 9-0, 9-3, their under-15 encounter 9/4, 9/7, 9/3 and their under-17 clash 9-2, 9-5, 9-0. They (Guyana) lost their under-13 match 1-3.

In the girls semi-final, Guyana won their two under-19 matches 9/1, 9/0, 9/0 and 9-2, 9-2, 9-0. In the under-17 age group, the locals won 9-3, 9-2, 9-3, while in the under-15 age group, the local girls won 9/7, 2/9, 4/9, 3/9.

Their lone loss came in the under-13 match where they (Guyana) lost 2-9, 2-9, 3-9.
