The deadline for the submission of nominations for the leadership of the PNC/R is July 25, three weeks before the party's biennial congress.

This was disclosed yesterday by PNC/R's General Secretary, Oscar Clarke, at the party's weekly press conference.

Clarke said a full and comprehensive statement on the plans for the congress will be released soon by the planning committee.

The leader of the party is Desmond Hoyte who was President of Guyana for seven years from 1985 to 1992 and Leader of the Opposition for the last ten years.

The issue of changing the PNC leader came up just before the last congress in 2000 but was shelved after the party decided to concentrate its efforts on the 2001 general elections.
