Balram Samaroo, who is alleged to have beaten his student Kellon Felix, to cause him actual bodily harm, compensated the victim in the sum of $30,000 yesterday.

The sum was handed over in open Court to the boy’s mother Ms Gillian Felix before Principal Magistrate Krishendat Persaud at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

Attorney-at-law Murselene Bacchus for the defendant agreed with fellow Counsel Rupert Trim that the sum is in full satisfaction without an admission of a libel.

Police earlier stated that the defendant, who is a teacher attached to the Vryman's Erven Secondary School, was attempting to discipline his student on September 20, 2001, with a wooden bar (ruler) when it was alleged the child sustained a fracture to his elbow. (Jeune Bailey Van-Keric)
