The People’s Progressive Party yesterday issued a statement in which it said that it has never been intimidated by the PNC, not even in the darkest days of the brutal PNC dictatorship. Following is the statement:

“The people’s Progressive Party (PPP) would have normally ignored the daily batch of vile and inflammatory statements directed at the party and its supporters by the PNC/R and its well-known talk show hosts. But the recent slew of diabolic assertions seems once again intended to intimidate the Party and create a charged atmosphere in the country and do deserve a comment.

“The PPP has never been intimidated by the PNC, not even in the darkest days of the brutal PNC dictatorship. Nor would it be intimidated by the threatening remarks and irresponsible action of the PNCR and its agents.

“The puerile, baseless assertion that the PPP had a ‘hit-list’ and has a ‘phantom’ squad is only intended to create fear among the population, instill general unease, intimidate the PPP and its supporters, and create a fertile environment for more acts of criminality. The PPP had a long, distinguished and internationally recognized record of peaceful organization and mobilization of the Guyanese people for their common good. This approach we will continue to take.

“The PPP has no interest in targeting any individual. As a matter of fact, the names touted by the talk show hosts are of now serious political consequence to the Party and its supporters. An interesting question is why has this and other related information not been properly communicated to the law enforcement agencies for investigations? Everyone that knows those who are involved in and with criminals have to be fearful of the law.

“Interestingly, the most recent episodes of the hate-mongering, race-biting and attacks on the security forces by certain talk show hosts do confirm the President of Guyana’s earlier observation that these individuals may be in the pockets of the criminals and their handlers.

“Clearly, the utterances of the PNCR (including the labeling of the PPP/C Government as “fascist”) during the past 48 hours do contradict its stated objective of its submission to the social partners on ‘shared governance.’’

“ The PPP has no interest in matching the daily diet of inflammatory and vulgar untruths of the PNCR and its cohorts. We urge the Guyanese people to ignore these and continue to be steadfast on the side of progress, order and unity,” the statement concluded
