The Social Partners engaged in discussions on the National Crime Paper will likely meet tomorrow afternoon, following the impasse that has been created by the PNC/R's recent suggested amendments to the joint communique on crime.

Spokesperson for the Social Partners, Dr. Peter deGroot yesterday said that he was attempting to arrange a 'meeting of minds' to take place tomorrow, out of which, hopefully, would be developed, once and for all, a consensus and collaborative effort by the political parties, to have a national response to the crime situation.

Dr. deGroot said that one week ago a draft document was sent out for the parties to study, in lieu of the anticipated formal signing of the National Crime Communique last Friday.

However, there was no consensus since the PNC/R is reported to have had major differences with what was contained in the Draft document.

He is however, hoping that the two parties will this time round, find common ground on which to move forward, and be able to forge a way forward, for the eventual signing of the communique which can only redound to the good of the entire nation.

Meanwhile, Information Liaison to the President, and Member of the PPP/C Delegation to Social Partners' Joint Consultation, Mr. Robert Persaud has expressed confidence in the Social Partners’ ability to bring the initiative to its finality.

Persaud noted that the Administration's reasonable submissions and amendments were done with the aim of achieving, at the earliest opportunity, a communique that would be acceptable to the Social Partners and the other concerned stakeholders.

He assured that the Administration will continue to support the endeavour, since it has always been the administration's stated position - the need to forge national consensus on the campaigning against crime and other related issues.
