President Jagdeo to meet world boxing champions today

PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo will meet Guyana’s latest boxing champions, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite and Vivian ‘Vicious’ Braithwaite at his office, today.

The two boxers arrive this morning, touching down at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, around 07:00 hrs.

Braithwaite and Harris will be accorded a civic reception at City Hall, by the Mayor and City Council at 10:00 hrs.

The duo will then pay a courtesy call on President Jagdeo at the Office of the President at 11:30 hrs.

In the evening, the two boxing heroes will special guests at a presidential reception at the Umana Yana.

Earlier in the day, the boxers will have lunch at the Georgetown Club, to be hosted by the Director of Sport.

Tomorrow, Braithwaite and Harris will journey to Linden at 09:00 hrs to be part of a programme organised by the Region 10 Administration.

The boxers will return to the city for a reception hosted by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control in the evening.

On Sunday, the champions will attend the Remembrance Day Parade at the Cenotaph then meet sportspersons at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall at 15:00 hrs. That evening, they will be at the National Park for a Cultural Extravaganza staged in their honour.

The world champions travel to Bartica on Monday, while other visits will be scheduled for Lethem, Essequibo Coast and Berbice.

On Tuesday, the duo will be at a media briefing at GTV studios from 08:30 hrs and at 10:00 hrs there will be the Plaisance Homecoming. Braithwaite hails from that community on the East Coast Demerara.

Braithwaite and Harris will pay a courtesy call on Minister of Sport, Gail Teixeira, on Wednesday.
