THE Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) has announced the appointment of an "Accident Inquiry Committee" to investigate the accident, which occurred at the GMR&SC's Gavin Naraine International Race Meet at the South Dakota Circuit, Timehri, last Sunday.

Two children, Dyna De Souza, six, and her two-year-old brother Ashton De Souza of 22 Austin Street, Campbellevlle, were killed when a car driven by British motor-racer David Brodie crashed into a bus of spectators.

Attorney-at-law Joseph King; Managing Director of Central Garage, Phillip De Freitas; and retired Company Director, Eric Vieira, have accepted the Club's invitation to serve on the committee. King will serve as Chairman of the Committee.

King is a former president and founder member of the Guyana Motor Racing Club and has over 40 years combined experience as a racing driver and official.

Eric Vieira is the founder of the Race Club and served as president for 20 years and has over 50 years combined experience as a racing driver and official.

Phillip De Freitas is a life member and served for many years as a member of past Executives’ Committees in the early years of the Club and has over 30 years combined as a racing driver and official.

The members of the Accident Inquiry Committee, between them, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport of motor racing to the Committee and are not members of the GMR&SC Executive Committee nor were members of the Race Organising Committee nor served in any official capacity at the Race Meeting.

The Committee held its first meeting yesterday and has begun an inspection of the racing car driven by David Brodie which was involved in the accident and which resulted in the tragic loss of the lives of two children and injuries to five other persons.

It is expected that the Accident Inquiry Committee will work expeditiously to present its findings in a report to the president of the GMR&SC, Stanley Ming.
