PEOPLE'S National Congress Reform (PNC/R) Leader, Mr. Desmond Hoyte recently outlined a $250M programme for Buxton, which he promised to propose to the Government.

The Government has denied charges that Buxton has been neglected and said several developmental projects have been undertaken in the village.

The Chronicle yesterday asked persons from other places whether similar $250M plans should be considered for their communities.

Neil Morris - Linden
"Three quarters of the young people in Linden are not doing anything. There are no jobs for them and nobody is providing any.

"You have to spend so much money for the children to go to school and when they finish they liming, they have nothing to do.

"The same amount of money the Buxtonians are asking for, that and more should be spent to help the people in Linden.

"What about us? I have to come to work til in Georgetown."

Cecil Nelson - Sophia
"I want to know why they would want to give all that money to Buxton alone.

"What about the other areas?...the roads in Sophia are already damaged because they were not done properly and the school children are being affected. There are many things that we want in Sophia so I don't think one area should be looked at.

Walterine McLeon - Lodge, Georgetown
"There are many other depressed areas and the Opposition should ask for money for all the depressed areas...The Government needs to look at the welfare of the people."

Robert Singh - Better Hope, East Coast Demerara
"We don't have much problems in our village. Right now we are doing the lights and when that is finished we will be alright. People in the area donated money to do the lights.

"We don't have a problem but many other villages need things done. But what more can the Government do? It cannot please everybody at the same time and I don't think giving that amount of money to Buxton would work. It would not solve the problem."

James Gibson - Belfield, East Coast Demerara
"My village needs a lot of things yes. There are the streets to do and many other things in the village. Everybody is supposed to stand up for their rights.

"The Buxtonians have a right to stand up for what they want. But I don't agree with the crime. I condemn that but they should stand up otherwise.

"Almost every village would need that amount of money Mr. Hoyte proposed. But investing that money into Buxton would not work right away. It would take a period of time."
Shafeina Shafeek - Stewartville, West Coast Demerara
"I am living in Stewartville and they are not doing anything to the road there.

"The money they asking for Buxton, why they don't share it with the other villages and not give Buxton alone?

"When the rain falls the road is very, very bad in Stewartville. Right now we feel that they only looking at one set of people because they do one side and left the other.

"Many other villages need things and not Buxton alone."

Shawn Jones - Bare Root, East Coast Demerara
"Where I live needs development but the Buxtonians should really be helped.

"But there are many other areas that need things too. And the building of roads in some of them should be priority.

"If you get roads you will get more business and development."

Walterine McLeon - Lodge, Georgetown
"Lodge people need to do something for themselves.

"The houses there speak poverty but the Buxtonians need the money more than us. I don't think we are so bad off.

"And when people hear you are from Buxton, you don't get jobs. There is nothing wrong with giving that money to Buxton."

R. Persaud - Good Hope, East Coast Demerara
"My area is quite developed but there are many other areas that need things.

"The Government should take that money and develop those other areas. All I know is that no money should be given to Buxton. Whatever the Government do there, they are breaking up, like the road.

"There are many other areas to be considered and who would care what is done for them. What sense does it make to be pouring money into that area if they are not making use of what they have?

"You will see what will happen to the pipeline they are putting in there...Other people cannot even go into Buxton, not even to use the clinic."

Mahadeo - Annandale, East Coast Demerara
"We get light, water, telephone. The street is a little bad but we can settle for that.

"We do self-help in that village. We don't wait for the Government or the council to come in to do anything.

"The Buxtonians need to help themselves. Look how they destroy the road. They are not respecting what they have.

"They are entitled to something but they need to care the little they have. They also need to help themselves."

Rawle Haynes - East La Penitence
"Buxton should get that money. They deserve that money.

"Every part of this country deserves a fraction of what the Government owes them. People in this country need to demand what it is they want, but I would not use that kind of force to get their attention."
