GOVERNMENT is prepared to tangibly reward new World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight champion Guyanese Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite.

In a television interview with Editor of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Jasminee Sahoye, President Bharrat Jagdeo gave the undertaking that Braithwaite will be given some tangible form of appreciation.

According to the Head of State, he called the world champion on Friday night after he had won the title to congratulate him and is looking forward to his return to his homeland.

"I hope to see him in Guyana soon to have discussions on what the country can do, the Government and the country can do in a much more tangible way, not just by congratulations, because I intend to also give him some tangible expression of appreciation. We are very happy he won," the president assured.

The 27-year-old Braithwaite knocked out Italian Vincenzo Cantatore in the tenth round of their scheduled 12-round encounter, staged in Champione d’Italia.

Minister of Public Service Management, Jennifer Westford, represented the government of Guyana at the championship bout.
