GUNMEN opened fire on Police in two separate incidents between Monday night and yesterday morning and a civilian in a mini-bus was shot, Police reported.

Police said four gunshots rang out as a traffic rank on a motorcycle was passing through Buxton at about 09:00 hrs yesterday and the rank took cover among other vehicles on the road.

Shortly after, it was discovered that a mini-bus and a motorcar were hit by gunshots and an occupant of the mini-bus was wounded in the back, Police said. The wounded person was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The rear door of the car was damaged, Police said.

On Monday at about 23:00 hrs, Police said gunshots were fired at a Police mobile patrol in the vicinity of the Church of God Street, Buxton.

None of the ranks was injured but one bullet struck the left front door of the vehicle, while another hit a mirror on the front fender causing it to completely break off.

The Police strongly condemned this and all other criminal acts against members of the Force and urged all citizens to respect the rule of law.
