ANAHEIM, California, (CMC) - Guyana’s ex-world champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis is returning to the fight game next month for the first time since he lost his World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title.

Promoters were expected to announce this weekend, details of the boxing card at the Arrowhead Pond on October 12, featuring Lewis, the 31-year-old Guyanese hero in a non-title contest.

Brooklyn-based Lewis lost his title in March when Nicaragua’s Ricardo Mayorga stopped him in five rounds, ending the Caribbean southpaw’s 13-month reign as WBA welterweight king.

In February 2001, Lewis became Guyana’s first ever world boxing champion, when he stopped American James Page in Las Vegas in seven rounds to claim the vacant title.

He successfully defended it in a points win against Larry Marks two months later.

Two other Guyanese boxers are going for world titles next month -- the World Boxing Council’s number one cruiserweight contender Wayne Brathwaite faces Italian Vicenzo Cantatore in Italy on October 5, before Vivian Harris challenges Cuba-born Diosbelys Hurtado in a World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBA junior-welterweight unification bout on October 19 in the USA.
