HAROON Rashied, the crippled man who was on August 28 doused with kerosene and set on fire by bandits who stormed the East Coast village of Non Pariel, died late Sunday evening at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Rashied, 56, was hospitalised since the attack and lost his eyesight after he was robbed and burnt by the bandits. He died at around 23:00 hrs Sunday, hospital officials said.

Rashied's wife, Amina, had passed away before the robbery attack, having been struck down by a motorcycle four days before.

The bandits struck in Non Pariel while Rashied and others were holding a `wake' for his wife who was buried later in the day.

He could not attend his wife's funeral as he was under intensive care in the hospital.

The bandits also robbed and assaulted other villagers during their early morning rampage.
