THE Guyana team for the 2002 West Indies Women Cricket Federation tournament is better prepared than the 2001 team.

This is according to coach Kenalyn Baker, who made the statement at the Guyana Cricket Board's press conference on Thursday. Baker, who was also in charge last year, said the 12-day encampment was definitely longer and should go a long way towards better performance.

According to the coach, the 18-member squad was encamped at the Cyril Potter College of Education, Turkeyen, and players were able to practice with the white balls - a key factor that was missing last year.
The team also had daily physical training sessions, after devotions at 05:00 hrs, and some ‘game sense’ net sessions.

A practice match against a Lusignan XI also took place, while the squad was also subjected to a number of motivational talks during the evenings.

Guyana lost all their matches in the 2001 tournament but Baker is confident they can do better this time around.

Meanwhile, teams from the other Caribbean territories began arriving yesterday. Due here yesterday wee St Vincent and the Grenadines and some members of the Grenadian team. Expected today are Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and St Lucia.

The tournament starts on Tuesday.
