DETHRONED singles champion Nicolette Fernandes led the defending Guyana ladies’ team to a comfortable 4-1 victory over hosts Trinidad and Tobago at the Lucozade-sponsored Caribbean Squash Championships on Wednesday night at the Cascadia Courts in Port of Spain.

Seeking to follow-up their success of their ladies’ team title in St. Lucia in 2000, the Guyanese lasses showed no mercy on their opponents, with a very convincing victory.

Fernandes defeated Rhea Khan in straight sets 9-2, 9-3, 9-1 while compatriot Denise Jeffrey did the same to Kimberley Farah.

Kathy Shuffler and Kristina King dropped a set each, while completing victories over Cindy Lee Foon and Ingrid Lloyd respectively, while Gen Shim salvaged a win for the local team against Tiffany Solomon.

Fernandes and her colleagues will come against the OECS in the next round today at 5 pm.

And late yesterday, Guyana started their defence of the men's title against Barbados.
