THE main Opposition People's National Congress Reform (PNC/R) yesterday said it was deeply disturbed at the continued killing of members of the Guyana Police Force in their line of duty and the further deterioration in the state of law and order.

Party Chairman, Mr. Robert Corbin, at a news conference said the PNC/R offers condolences to the relatives of the officers and other persons who were gunned down in the dreadful events that unfolded after midnight last Sunday, at Rose Hall, Berbice.

"In our view, this further escalation in the level of violent crime represents an even more unacceptable level of deterioration in our security and is evidence of the contempt which these murderers and bandits hold for our Police Force," he said.

He said the disgraceful situation must be brought to an end if Guyana is to be saved from the brink of disaster.

Corbin noted that many tried and tested officers of the Police Force have expressed their utter dismay at the way in which their fellow policemen are being eliminated. Members of private security force are also becoming targets of the mayhem, he said.

"We in the PNC/R take no pleasure in reminding the nation that we have warned for some time of the need to take urgent action to support our policemen and women", he stated.
