THE Miss Guyana/World Pageant Committee is enjoying tremendous success in sponsorship for this year’s pageant.

Twelve delegates will now be introduced on July 13, instead of on July 6 and according to Assistant Pageant Coordinator, Ms. Andrea McAdam, this is to allow sufficient time for the invitations to go out.

Boyo’s Fashion of Regent Street, Georgetown, is a major sponsor, she said, reporting that the Pageant Committee has just concluded an agreement with the fashion house to provide all pre-pageant outfits for the all of the delegates.

Caribbean Topaz of London will provide special gold and silver jewellery to be worn by the winner of the Pageant while in London.

Caribbean Topaz is the U.K-registered trading name for innovative and well-crafted jewellery designed and manufactured by Topaz of Guyana.

The company will also manufacture a tiara to be worn by the queen for official engagements in London, instead of the sizeable Miss Guyana crown.

Dalgety Group of Companies is also a sponsor of this year’s pageant. The company commenced operation in Georgetown in 1993 and in 1995 opened Dalgety Teas and Herbs in the U.K.

A special promotional magazine featuring this year’s contestants and information on Guyana and produced by local publisher Sheik Hassan will be launched prior to the pageant.

The contest is billed for September 07 at the National Cultural Centre after which the winner will move on to represent Guyana at the Miss World Pageant in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

She will be in London by October 10 in time for the Miss Guyana dinner and dance to be held on the October 12.

During the month, the Derek Moore Fashion Show for charity is also to be held in London. Last year’s beneficiary was the Kids First Fund of which First Lady Varshnie Jagdeo is patron.

On November 1, all the contestants for the Miss World Pageant are to arrive in London and on November 3 there will be a Royal ceremony for all of the delegates.

The following day, the contestants will all depart for Nigeria where the pageant will be held at the brand new Abuja National Stadium, with a seating capacity of 60,000.

The Miss World Pageant will be a two-and-a-half hour television show to be produced by the production house “Done and Dusted”, under Director Haresh Hamilton.

Hamilton has directed shows like the Madonna Webcast, the U2 Elevation tour and concerts for Jennifer Lopez.
