President Bharrat Jagdeo has asked to see reports that officers of the Tactical Services Unit were used by former US visa officer Thomas Carroll to harass his foes while he operated a US visa scam here.

Jagdeo said there would be an investigation and depending on the outcome, appropriate action would be taken.

Carroll has pleaded guilty to orchestrating a scheme to sell hundreds of US non-immigrant visas to clients who tendered fraudulent application documents that falsely portrayed them as having legitimate business in the US. Carroll and his co-schemers collected between US$10,000 and US$12,500 per visa.

Carroll protected his scheme, according to the US District Court of Illinois, by obtaining the services of "paramilitary officers belonging to a notorious Guyanese police unit known as the Black Shirts (clothes)" to silence and intimidate anyone who might threaten his operation.
