Cambridge sought over murder of policeman

The Guyana Police Force has issued wanted bulletins for two men who are accused of committing a number of armed robberies and murders, including the shooting to death of the late detective sergeant Harry Kooseram.

Wanted bulletins were issued for 28-year-old, Compton Dolphin Cambridge also called 'Nand' and 21-year-old Kwame Pendleton called 'Jamaal Chan' whom the police have described as "armed and extremely dangerous." A police bulletin said that Cambridge's last known address was Vigilance south, East Coast Demerara while Pendleton's last known address was Lot 10, Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge. Pendleton is said to have a scar at the back of his neck.

Stabroek News was told by reliable police sources that Cambridge is wanted for, among other crimes, the murder of Kooseram who was shot six times on April 15, as he rode to work at the nearby Vigilance Police Station. The 37-year-old police officer, who was also known as `Rudy' and who resided at 149 First Street, Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara, was shot a short distance away from his home when a man approached him, pulled out a gun which was wrapped in paper and fired six shots two of which hit him in the chest, and three in the abdomen.

Cambridge, according to sources, is also wanted for the shooting of a couple in Friendship, East Coast Demerara on April 26. A police release had identified the couple as Brian Chester, 37, and his reputed wife Dionne Glasgow, both of Lot 144 Brush Dam, Friendship. The release had said that one of the two armed men, who had shot at the couple, was identified as Shawn Brown, one of the five prisoners who escaped from the Georgetown Prison on February 23, and other as Cambridge. The two men were reportedly on a motorbike at the time of the shooting.

Meanwhile, Pendleton is accused of being one of two persons on a motorcycle on March 26, who robbed and shot three Alberttown jewellers before escaping with $80,000 worth in gold.

The robbery occurred in Fifth Street, Alberttown outside John's Jewellery Establishment. The jewellers had just closed the store when two gunmen rode up on a red and black CC 125 motorcycle and began firing bullets.

The 21-year-old wanted man is also accused of shooting 36-year-old Raymond Baird in the leg on Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust.
