The leaking of information to the five February 23 prison escapees has helped them to elude capture.

Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon, made this statement yesterday, confirming that investigations have been launched into possible leaks from the police force.

Speaking at his weekly press conference yesterday, Dr Luncheon said Cabinet had been provided with information that the escapees were being given all possible forms of support. He warned that this was a criminal offence and urged that persons desist from this practice.

"The disappointments they [the security forces] face in their attempts to recapture the escapees could be a reflection of the [lack of] confidentiality affecting the force," Luncheon said.

He stated that the probable collusion by members of the force with the gang was still being investigated, therefore he did not want to engage in unnecessary speculation.
