The three Anna Regina Multilateral schoolgirls who went missing last Monday, are currently in police custody at Charity, Essequibo, after a search party discovered them in neighbouring Venezuela early yesterday.

According to reports, Mariel Williams, 16, Chelesea Jagdeo, and Malinie Naipaul, both aged 14, were found in a house in the country which borders Guyana on the western side, and were taken to Charity where they are being interrogated by police. The police have also detained some young men for questioning, reports further indicated.

Last Monday, the young women, who are cousins, left home for school and did not return. The matter had only been reported on Wednesday after word spread that they had been seen boarding a speedboat in the Pomeroon River. It had been accurately assumed that the speedboat, allegedly piloted by the son of a prominent Pomeroon Rover speedboat owner, had been headed for Venezuela.
