As efforts continued yesterday to find the three missing Essequibo schoolgirls, plans are said to be afoot to follow their tracks to neighbouring Venezuela.

Reports from Charity, Pomeroon yesterday indicated that relatives of the trio were actively considering hiring a vessel to collect them from the neighbouring territory once confirmation of their location was had.

Police at Charity confirmed yesterday that the parents were negotiating with some of the very persons with whom their children were seen and who operate the Pomeroon-Venezuela speedboat run to assist in facilitating the trip.

Efforts to contact the Venezuelan Ambassador to determine whether approaches were made to the embassy for assistance proved futile.

Mariel Williams, 16, of Queenstown; Chelesea Jagdeo, 14, of Hampton Court and Malinie Naipaul, 14, of Better Hope, all villages on the Essequibo Coast disappeared on Monday after leaving their school premises at Anna Regina shortly before 1000 hrs.

The fifth and third form students of Anna Regina, Multilateral School reportedly took a speedboat to neighbouring Venezuela some time in the wee-hours of Wednesday morning after hiding out in an abandoned house in the Lower Pomeroon River since Monday.

The trio who are related, are believed to be heading to relatives who reside in the neighbouring republic including the father of one of the girls.

Initial reports gathered from the area on Friday stated that the girls arrived at a border stop on Wednesday evening and after a brief period of rest were expected to continue their journey inland on Friday.
