COACH of Guyana’s Olympic football team that did not lose a match, Joseph Wilson, was appointed head coach of the Senior National squad.

The executive body of the Guyana Football Federation made the appointment on Thursday, while naming Cornel Millington and Adrian Forde as assistant coaches.

Wilson will still supervise the National Under-17 squad for which he was originally appointed head coach. He had held a supervisory role with the National Under-20 team, which had Dennis Hunte as head coach.

The resilient coach had almost single-handedly honed the National Under-23 team for Guyana’s Olympic campaign, with the team never losing in the home-and-away preliminary, but failed to advance to the group qualifiers because they had conceded a goal on home soil.

Also, the GFF recalled Collie Hercules to the National grid, on request of the coaches, according to an officer in the GFF Secretariat.

Three other players were drafted in. They are National Under-20 goalkeeper Ravin Choo, striker Matthew Pollard of Netrockers and Delon Fraser of Western Tigers.

Sherlock Dowden of Victoria Kings and Eron Hayde of Western Tigers were dropped because they never turned up for training sessions after they were called.

The Senior Nationals play their second practice match tomorrow against an East Coast Demerara side at Victoria ground.

Fourteen players were named for the East Coast team under coach Owen Adonis. They are Philbert Muffat, Marcus Anthony, Dellon Sibdhannie, Jason Roberts, Keon Garnett, Errol Havercome, Shawn Daniels, Mark Glasgow, Linden Dennis, Yonel Price, Naku Durant, P. Phill, Randy King and Travis Glasgow.

The Senior Nationals opened preparations for the CONCACAF Gold Cup championships with a 5-1 thrashing of Berbice last Sunday, fielding a young side under coach Millington at New Amsterdam.
