People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) activist, Mr. Phillip Bynoe, was yesterday asked to leave a meeting at the Office of the President called by President Bharrat Jagdeo to discuss the current BERMINE situation with bauxite workers.

According to Information Liaison to the President, Mr. Robert Persaud, the meeting was organised for concerned BERMINE workers to discuss with President Jagdeo, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and the bauxite industry officials, issues concerning the current operations of BERMINE.

Bynoe and a group also turned up and were allowed in for the meeting in the Cabinet Room at the Office of the President. But Persaud noted that just before the meeting commenced, Bynoe began hurling remarks at Government officials and attempted to disrupt the important meeting.

The PNC/R activist was then asked by the President to leave the meeting.

BERMINE workers, who turned up for the meeting, held about 13:30 hrs, stayed on and held fruitful discussions with the President lasting more than one and an half hours.

“Bynoe’s conduct was most inappropriate. He seemed more interested in disrupting a meeting called to genuinely examine issues of concern to BERMINE employees,” Persaud observed.

Later in the afternoon, another group of the BERMINE employees, numbering 25, attended a second meeting held at the Office of the President. At the end of the two meetings, Government and the BERMINE workers issued a joint press release. The agreement sets the basis for the current situation to be addressed positively, the statement concluded.
