POLICE in West Berbice were yesterday afternoon trying to locate the parents of three children, 3-6 years old, who were abandoned on the Hopetown Village public road.

The three children, a girl, six, and two boys were found at the corner of the street with a big bag containing their personal belongings. They were in an unkempt and dirty condition and apparently very hungry, a resident of Hopetown said.

He said the children were apparently abandoned in the village yesterday morning.

The eldest gave her name as Leandra Miller and said her brothers were Joseph Miller, three and Silby Miller, five. She said they lived at No. 5 Village, West Coast Berbice.

Leandra gave her mother's name as Francine Miller, also known as 'Takeeda', who she said was a domestic of No. 5 Village.

The three, who drew a large crowd of curious onlookers and passersby, were crying at the street corner. They were taken in and fed by residents and later taken to the Fort Wellington Police Station.

Up to press time they were being accommodated at the Police Station, while investigations were being carried out. (CLIFFORD STANLEY)
