Winston Felix is a good choice, must do his own thing

Dear Editor,

Gratifying it was to hear that Winston Felix is the person designated to be appointed the next Commissioner of Police. Gratifying it was to read that the politicians met to consider (and approve I believe) the appointment. Regretful it is that the appointment cannot be made forthwith, thus putting Mr Felix is an unenviable position of working along with a system that he himself might want to revise, adjust and / or change. This does create a problem for him in the future.

Mr Felix is going to be subject to the powers of the politicians. Would he be allowed to function? Would he not find himself unable to implement his ideas for change and improvement? Remember he has to contend with the responsible Minister who in turn has to contend with the all powerful HPS. Is he going to cower, enjoy the pay and perks, mouth empty nothings, and drift into retirement on a chicken farm?

As much as Mr Felix is the right choice, there is the sharp posibility that because of the manner in which the last retired Commissioner of Police operated, he might find himself enfolded and confined and unable to have his ideas implemented.

I wish him well and hope that he does get to place his stamp on his job.

Yours faithfully,

Carl Veecock
