Gaul is an example of the culture of lawlessness

Dear Editor,

I refer to your report headlined "Assault on passenger - Gaul says his rights violated" (l5.3.2002). I am sure that there were many law abiding Guyanese on the BW431 flight with Colin Gaul and they peacefully boarded BW431 by the rear entrance without behaving in a despicable manner.

What is worrying is the behaviour of the government (in the form of Dr Luncheon and others) and Stabroek News, by giving Colin Gaul VIP treatment as depicted on the front page of the same issue. If they could look beyond the culture of lawlessness they will understand that some Guyanese are taking the culture with them wherever they go, which is evident by the number of deportees to Guyana. Most of our near West Indian neighbours seem to be more law abiding people than us Guyanese. The captain of BW431 acted in the best interest of the aircraft and the people therein.

Guyanese would fare better internationally if the government enforces the rule of law.

Yours faithfully,

Vic Lobert
