Dear Editor,

I refer to a letter by Dr William Walcott captioned "Much can be learnt from Canadian multiculturalism" [ please note: link provided by LOSP web site ] (27.2.2002). I think perhaps the good Dr. needs to do a bit of research with the Canadian multiculturalism bit. While it is true that Team Canada (yeah!) united this nation from Nanavut to P.E.I, there is still lots of work to be done. Just ask the First Nations people, or the descendants of African immigrants in Nova Scotia.

I will not disagree about Mr. Trudeau (I think he was a great person, and most Americans did not understand why I shed tears upon his passing), most Canadians do not want to know the atrocities of their past history. Let's see, the killing of young native men by police officers in Edmonton, fishing rights in Nova Scotia and PEI, the list goes on and on.

Great that Team Canada united a nation, let's hope that other things unite and heal some very nasty wounds.

Yours faithfully,
