Poor security at prison

Dear Editor,

I found it rather disturbing reading about the Feb. 23rd prison break in which a prison guard died and another was critically injured. One has to question the security measures that are in place in the Camp Street prison.

Again and again we can read about prisoners making their way on to the roof to voice complaints. Doesn't anyone see something wrong here? There should be a joint committee of the government and opposition examining proper training and security measures for prisons. This committee should be formed immediately as it is obvious that the measures that are currently in place do not work. I look forward to seeing results and not reading about movie style prison escapes. Condolences to the family of the prison guard and a safe recovery to the injured.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Vieira

Editor's note

The security on Mash day clearly left a lot to be desired. The security cameras were not being monitored and there seemed to have been inadequate supervision of the prisoners including the five dangerous one who escaped.
