The citizens of New Amsterdam, are calling it the 'Case of the Partying Thieves'. Sources told Stabroek News yesterday that thieves broke into the Guyana Stores Ltd outlet in New Amsterdam last week and proceeded to entertain themselves with a late night vodka and cheese party.

Police at New Amsterdam confirmed that when the staff of the store reported for duty the next morning, they were astonished to find two large empty vodka bottles, remnants of cheese and a number of empty sausage tins on a table filled with empty glasses. Staff also found a bag loaded with slabs of cheese and tins of sausages and about seven VCRs.

One staff member told Stabroek News that all indications point to the fact that the thieves were so intoxicated after their "presumptuous and daring" drinking spree, that they forgot the their booty. However, they did remove two television sets from the store.

The sources say it is felt that the thieves had meant to remove a substantial amount of booty from the store but the lure of vodka and orange juice, cheese and sausage was too much for them. New Amsterdam police are investigating the incident.
