The Trinidadian airline, BWIA, yesterday announced its intention to work closely with the Guyana Airways Corporation (GAC) in an effort to ensure improved passenger and cargo service between Guyana and the USA.

According to the airline's new schedule, which will be effective from April 21, the Georgetown-New York route will be serviced five times weekly--Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays--with the "wide-bodied" L1011 aircraft.

"This almost doubles the capacity for passengers wishing to travel between these destinations... It is anticipated that the Guyanese director of civil aviation (DCA) will extend [his] permission [for the aircraft to land at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri] in the interest of better customer service," a statement from BWIA said yesterday.

For the BWIA Miami route, customers travelling between Miami and Georgetown will enjoy a daily through service at the commencement of the new schedule, the release said.

According to the press release, BWIA flight BW484 will operate direct from Georgetown to Miami with one stop; BW483 will provide Miami to Georgetown service.

GAC's administration had announced that it was in discussion with BWIA for possible collaboration in service in order to boost reliability and efficiency.

As part of GAC's cost reduction moves, its flights to Miami have been cut.
