Government says it is still pursuing the extradition of Walter Rodney murder suspect, Gregory Smith, from Cayenne.

"Unfortunately," Information Minister Moses Nagamootoo said in a statement to mark the death anniversary of Dr Rodney, "this process is still at the stage of an exchange of letters and documents, but the government will continue this matter to ensure that justice is done."

Dr Rodney died in an explosion on June 13, 1980. The government says it continues to honour his memory, has recognised his struggles and had awarded him, posthumously, the nation's highest honour, the Order of Excellence.
