The University of Guyana yesterday received an estimated $70,000 worth of books and journals in a presentation ceremony that may set the tone for future donations as the institution explores links with an American college.

The presentation of 90 books and 100 journals was made by US Ambassador James Mack, on behalf of Professor Booker T. Ingram, of Presbyterian College in South Carolina, USA.

At the presentation ceremony which took place in the UG Library foyer, Ambassador Mack explained that the books had been donated by political science students at Ingram's university.

Ingram visited Guyana earlier this year and delivered two lectures at UG.

UG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Harold Lutchman, who received the donation on behalf of UG, admonished students and staff alike to treat the books with respect and care in the hope of inviting future donations.

His remarks were made in the presence of several members of the library's staff including Librarian(ag) Doreen Holder who gave the welcome.
