President Janet Jagan returned on Sunday evening from her two-week rest-vacation which she spent in the United Kingdom and France.

According to a release from the Guyana Information Services (GIS), while abroad, the President took the opportunity to address representatives of the Guyanese community in London on May 7.

Yesterday, President Jagan was briefed on state affairs by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon; Home Affairs Minister, Ronald Gajraj; Police Commissioner, Laurie Lewis; and Presidential Adviser on Internal Security, Feroze Mohamed, the GIS said. She was also brought up to date on the current industrial situation by Dr Luncheon; Labour Minister, Dr Henry Jeffrey; Information Minister, Moses Nagamootoo; Public Service Minister, George Fung-On; and Housing and Water Minister, Shaik Baksh.

President for Brazil state visit

President Janet Jagan will pay a four-day state visit to Brazil from tomorrow to Saturday.

A statement from the Office of the President, released by the Guyana Information Services (GIS) said that the President will hold discussions with Brazilian President, Fernando Henrique Cardoso and other state and government officials in the capital. From Brasilia, President Jagan will travel to Manaus, where she will hold talks with Governor of the Amazonas, Amazonino Mendes and to Boa Vista to hold discussions with Governor of Roraima, Nuedo R. Campos.

President Jagan will be accompanied by Foreign Minister, Clement Rohee; Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Anthony Xavier; Presidential Adviser on the environment, Kellawan Lall; Aide-de-Camp, Major Francis Abraham and Ron Webster and Manniram Prashad of the private sector.

The Office of the President said that the President would also meet representatives of the private sector in Brazil and that the visit was intended to further deepen the friendly and multi-faceted ties between the two countries.
