BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (CANA PR WIRE) - The West Indies Cricket Board has sent a letter of apology to the management and players of the Australian touring party for the crowd invasions at the Bourda Cricket Ground during the 5th One Day International yesterday (Wednesday).

CEO of the WICB, Stephen Camacho said that the Board deeply regretted the incident at Bourda and commended the captain, Steve Waugh for his restraint during the second invasion.

Commenting on the issue today from his office in Antigua, Camacho said that the Barbados Cricket Association has given the assurance that security that was in place for the Test Match would be maintained and even improved upon for the 6th and 7th One Day Internationals this weekend at Kensington Oval.

He noted that security would also be a key item on the agenda of the next Board meeting in May.

Camacho said that the WICB and its member bodies had a responsibility for the safety of the players and umpires as well as spectators and could not continue to hold matches in conditions where persons were not safe.

The WICB CEO said that the Board had conducted a security survey of all of the grounds in the Caribbean and the recommendations were forwarded to the respective territorial boards for implementation. The WICB had also done considerable follow-up on the matter but would be investigating further to detect deficiencies in implementation.

Camacho also appealed to the cricketing public to desist from invading the field since this practice could have far-reaching negative impact on West Indies cricket.
